TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Heavy rainfall threatens regions south of Penghu (澎湖) and Yunlin (雲林) on Tuesday (Aug. 5), prompting weather authorities to issue urgent safety warnings. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national meteorological agency, advised residents to exercise extreme caution regarding lightning strikes, powerful wind gusts, and dangerous flash flooding conditions. Emergency preparedness measures remain critical as severe weather patterns continue affecting southern Taiwan's coastal and inland communities.

Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) analyzed European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts data, identifying weakening southwest monsoon patterns and northward atmospheric shifts as primary causes of current instability. The weather expert predicted that strengthening Pacific high-pressure systems from Wednesday through Saturday would transform Taiwan's climate into characteristically clear, intensely hot midsummer conditions. These shifting meteorological patterns signal a dramatic transition from stormy weather to sustained high-temperature periods across the island.

The CWA stressed that central and southern Taiwan regions would continue experiencing intermittent showers and thunderstorm activity while northern areas transition to predominantly sunny conditions. Weather forecasters issued specific heat warnings for Greater Taipei metropolitan residents, predicting dangerous temperatures reaching or surpassing 36 degrees Celsius (97°F). Officials strongly recommended comprehensive sun protection measures as scorching summer conditions intensify across Taiwan's most densely populated urban centers.

Weather expert Lin De-en (林得恩) confirmed that areas south of Miaoli would continue experiencing sporadic shower and thunderstorm activity, though with significantly diminished intensity and increasingly scattered distribution patterns. The meteorologist projected that most Taiwan regions would achieve stable atmospheric conditions by Wednesday (Aug. 6), featuring predominantly partly cloudy to sunny skies. This weather transition marks the end of the current unstable period affecting the island's southern territories. ◼
