TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's military mobilized troops across southern and central regions on Monday (Aug. 4) as seasonal monsoon winds weakened, providing relief from devastating rainfall that battered these areas. The Fourth Army Command (國軍第四作戰區) deployed personnel to Tainan City's (臺南) Longci District (龍崎區) and multiple Kaohsiung City (高雄) districts including Liouguei (六龜區), Namasia (那瑪夏區), and Maolin (茂林區) for critical sediment removal and evacuation operations. Local governments requested military assistance as communities struggled with widespread flood damage and landslide debris.

Military personnel confronted treacherous terrain to assist residents in clearing extensive landslide-damaged zones throughout the affected districts. Troops engaged in comprehensive disaster response operations, supporting local communities with debris removal, sanitation efforts, and area disinfection to prevent disease outbreaks. Weather officials warned that despite diminishing rainfall intensity, mountainous areas in Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County (屏東縣) remain vulnerable to sudden localized downpours.

Central Taiwan witnessed similar military deployment as the Fifth Army Command mobilized cleanup forces while maintaining essential training schedules. Sixty military personnel arrived on Monday (Aug. 4) in multiple municipalities including Shuishang (水上) and Puzi (朴子) townships in Chiayi County (嘉義縣) and Chiayi City to tackle road clearance and fallen tree removal. Military units collaborated directly with community members, focusing on restoring neighborhood infrastructure and ensuring public safety after the severe weather event. ◼
