TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan residents face severe thunderstorm warnings for Tuesday (Sept. 2) and Wednesday (Sept. 3) afternoons, with meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) urging preparations for sudden heavy rain and hail. Wu shared his forecast through his column for National Central University (NCU, 中央大學), predicting partly cloudy skies with slightly cooler temperatures as southern moisture increases, though conditions will remain warm across the island.
Wu forecasts extreme heat for northern Taiwan from Thursday (Sept. 4) through Saturday (Sept. 7), with temperatures soaring to 37 or 38 degrees Celsius (98.6 to 100.4°F). The meteorologist urged residents to protect themselves against dangerous ultraviolet radiation and heatstroke risks. A tropical disturbance near the Ryukyu Islands carries a 60 percent chance of strengthening into a typhoon while tracking toward Japan.
European weather model simulations indicate Sunday (Sept. 8) will bring increased southern moisture, creating partly cloudy conditions across Taiwan while northern regions maintain warm temperatures. Eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula, Taiwan's southernmost tip, may encounter brief scattered showers. Wu emphasized the tropical disturbance follows an uncertain trajectory, currently moving northward past the Ryukyu Islands' eastern waters before turning northeast toward Japan. ◼
