TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists began closely monitoring Tropical Disturbance 95W Tuesday (Sept. 2) as the weather system initiated its northward trajectory across the western Pacific. The specialized weather-focused Facebook page, Taiwan Typhoon Forum (台灣颱風論壇), expects the disturbance to pass south of Japan on Thursday and Friday, prompting urgent advisories for travelers to Japan to remain vigilant about rapidly changing local weather conditions.

As 95W progresses northward, meteorologists predict a significant low-pressure zone will expand across the region in the coming days. This atmospheric development could spawn new low-pressure systems east of the Philippines and in the South China Sea, with the Philippine system potentially approaching Taiwan by the weekend. Taiwan Typhoon Forum highlights the presence of an upper-level cold-core low east of Taiwan, which could trigger afternoon thunderstorms over inland and mountainous areas. These storms might spread to coastal flatlands if the thunderstorm belt intensifies substantially.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署), Taiwan's national weather service, has indicated that by Sept. 7, a large low-pressure zone south of Taiwan will gradually move northward, increasing atmospheric moisture in eastern regions and triggering localized short-term showers. The administration also warns of the potential development of tropical systems spanning from the South China Sea to the eastern seas of the Philippines. These emerging weather patterns could significantly impact regional aviation and maritime operations across the western Pacific. ◼
