TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The San Francisco Giants suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday (Sept. 8), wrapping up the series with one win and two losses. Taiwanese pitcher Teng Kai-wei (鄧愷威) initially dazzled with eight strikeouts in the first four innings but faltered in the fifth inning, allowing consecutive walks, which led to a bases-loaded hit and his subsequent exit.

Teng, making his sixth Major League appearance this season, recorded his fourth loss despite showcasing his strikeout prowess early in the game. He struck out two batters in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, and all three outs in the fourth inning. Giants manager Bob Melvin commented on Teng's performance, noting that he pitched well in the first four innings but struggled to find the strike zone in the fifth, resulting in a bases-loaded hit.

In a post-game interview, Teng reflected on his adjusted pitching role and training methods this year, suggesting that the effects of his early-season relief role and strength training have yet to manifest. NBC Sports Bay Area highlighted Teng's ability to dominate Major League hitters, citing his 16 strikeouts over 9.1 innings in his previous game against the Colorado Rockies and this game against the Cardinals.
