TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces potential tropical disturbances later this month as meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) issued warnings Friday (Sept. 12) about heightened typhoon activity through September. The U.S. NCEP numerical model predicts a tropical system will form east of the Philippines on Monday (Sept. 16) before tracking toward Taiwan by Sunday (Sept. 22). Lin emphasized that September traditionally represents peak typhoon season for the region, requiring continued vigilance from residents and authorities.
European EC-AIFS modeling data corroborates Lin's forecast, indicating a tropical disturbance will materialize east of the Philippines on Sunday (Sept. 15). The system is projected to track northwest through Luzon before continuing toward southern China's coastline. Meteorological models also suggest a second disturbance will develop east of Guam around Tuesday (Sept. 17), potentially threatening Taiwan by Sunday (Sept. 22) as well.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather service, predicts mostly cloudy to clear conditions Thursday (Sept. 11) with scattered showers affecting Taitung and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula. Afternoon thunderstorms may develop across western plains and mountainous regions throughout the island. Temperatures will climb from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius (89.6 to 95°F), with some areas in Greater Taipei, central Taiwan, southern regions, and Taitung potentially reaching 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F). ◼
