TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電), the world's largest contract chipmaker, denied Friday (Sept. 26) engaging in partnership discussions with Intel. The Wall Street Journal reported potential collaboration talks between the companies. TSMC reiterated it has not discussed joint ventures, technology licensing, or technology transfer with any company.
Market speculation about a potential TSMC-Intel joint venture has circulated despite company denials. C.C. Wei previously emphasized during an institutional investor conference that TSMC has not engaged in related discussions. Intel's recent investments from the U.S. government, SoftBank, and NVIDIA demonstrate its active pursuit of collaboration opportunities.
TSMC confirmed that C.C. Wei had already addressed these rumors and stated there are no further comments from the company. The chipmaker recently clarified that its Chiayi plant's progress remains unaffected by delays at its U.S. facility, Taiwan's advanced semiconductor manufacturing hub. This statement dispelled market concerns about potential setbacks affecting the company's domestic operations. ◼
