TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan weather experts warned Wed. (Oct. 1) that Tropical Depression 24 in the Western Pacific basin will intensify into the year's 21st typhoon, with Dr. Lin De-en (林得恩) from National Taiwan University (NTU, 台灣大學) confirming favorable atmospheric conditions on social media. The developing storm threatens to bring localized rainfall across southern Taiwan despite not making direct landfall.
Meteorologist Wu De-rong (吳德榮) analyzed the Central Weather Administration's (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather service, forecast showing TD24's northwest trajectory through Luzon Island into the South China Sea for intensification. The storm's outer bands will deliver localized rainfall Friday (Oct. 3) and Saturday (Oct. 4), with southern Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula facing the heaviest precipitation.
Lin predicted improving weather conditions during the Moon Festival (中秋節) holiday, Taiwan's traditional autumn celebration, as the typhoon draws atmospheric moisture away from the region. Wu De-rong emphasized continued monitoring through the Double Ten National Day (國慶日) holiday, Taiwan's national day, citing European AI Forecast System models from Wed. (Oct. 1). ◼
