TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's printed circuit board industry achieved record production value of NT$423.6 billion (around US$13.9 billion) in the first half of 2025. The Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (台灣電路板協會) announced Thursday (Oct. 2) that this milestone represents a significant breakthrough for the island's electronics manufacturing sector.
Second quarter PCB manufacturing output reached NT$218.2 billion (around US$7.2 billion), marking a 14.4% increase from 2024. The first half cumulative production value showed 13.8% annual growth. TPCA forecasts total 2025 PCB production value will reach NT$915.7 billion (around US$30.1 billion), representing 12.1% annual growth for Taiwan's electronics industry.
High-end substrate products surged 20.6% year-on-year, driven by rising memory and smartphone demands. HDI boards experienced 16.2% growth due to expanding AI server and low-Earth orbit satellite applications. Multilayer boards grew 19.2%, while flexible and rigid-flex boards posted modest gains of 4.1% and 4.7% respectively.
The automotive application market declined due to high U.S. tariffs on imported cars and withdrawn electric vehicle subsidies in Europe and America. AI servers remain the primary growth driver despite automotive challenges, with shipments expected to surge 82.8% this year. This dramatic increase underscores artificial intelligence's transformative impact on Taiwan's PCB industry.
