TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's weather agency warned Thursday (Oct. 2) that a new tropical system could approach southeastern waters next weekend. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) identified a large low-pressure area east of the Philippines that may develop into a tropical system, though forecasts remain uncertain.

The CWA, Taiwan's national weather service, warned residents to remain vigilant as a weak northeast monsoon approaches Oct. 8. Rain probabilities will increase across northern and eastern Taiwan, with temperatures dropping slightly on the windward eastern coast. Afternoon thunderstorms remain likely in central and southern mountainous regions.

WeatherRisk Explore Inc. (天氣風險管理開發) forecasted clear and hot weather across Taiwan from Sunday (Oct. 5) through Oct. 7. Pacific high pressure will dominate following Typhoon Matmo's (颱風麥德姆) departure, ensuring minimal rainfall throughout the three-day period.

Before the potential tropical development, occasional showers will affect Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung Saturday (Oct. 4). Mountain areas face thunderstorm risks during afternoon hours, according to the weather administration. Officials urged residents to monitor weather updates for potential changes in forecast conditions. ◼
