TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan secured unprecedented international backing at the United Nations General Assembly, with over 20 countries and the European Union rejecting China's interpretation of Resolution 2758 regarding Taiwan's exclusion. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Friday (Oct. 3) that allies and like-minded nations strongly advocated for the island's inclusion in the U.N. system following the 80th General Assembly's conclusion on Sept. 29.

Four diplomatic allies submitted a joint letter to the U.N. Secretariat challenging China's position, while Czech President Petr Pavel emphasized Taiwan Strait peace. Paraguay, the Marshall Islands, Eswatini, and Palau coordinated their diplomatic efforts as U.S., Japanese, and South Korean foreign ministers joined AUKUS partners in reiterating support for Taiwan's international participation.

Legislative support also surged across multiple democracies, with over 100 U.S. Senate lawmakers and 30 state legislatures joining Dutch House of Representatives members in urging Taiwan's U.N. inclusion. Five allies directly refuted China's interpretation of Resolution 2758 while President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) delivered a pre-recorded address at the Concordia Summit, emphasizing Taiwan's global cooperation commitment.

Taiwan's diplomatic outreach achieved significant media penetration, with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung's (林佳龍) articles appearing in 349 media pieces across 48 countries through Sept. 30. Digital campaigns generated over 1.113 million engagements while a bipartisan legislative delegation deployed digital billboards and advertisements throughout New York during U.N. activities to amplify Taiwan's international message. ◼
