TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Strengthening northeast winds brought slight relief Tuesday (Oct. 7) to scorching weather in northern and northeastern Taiwan, meteorological expert Lin De-en (林得恩) reported. Central and southern regions will remain hot with temperatures ranging from 34 to 35 degrees Celsius (93 to 95°F), according to forecasts. Lin shared the weather update on his "Lin's Weather Station" Facebook page, providing detailed regional temperature analysis for the island.
Lin forecasted brief showers for Keelung North Coast, Yilan, Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), and Greater Taipei mountain areas, while Hualien and Taitung regions may experience scattered rain. The rest of Taiwan, the self-governing island democracy, is expected to stay mostly cloudy to sunny with generally stable weather conditions. Afternoon thunderstorms remain possible in central and southern areas due to atmospheric instability.
Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) indicated the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model, updated Monday (Oct. 6) at 8 p.m., shows clear skies across Taiwan Tuesday with daytime heat and brief mountain showers. Wu added moisture will slightly increase east of Taiwan from Wednesday (Oct. 8) to Friday (Oct. 10), causing occasional showers on North Coast and eastern regions.
Wu mentioned the final two days of National Day holiday, Taiwan's major public celebration commemorating the Republic of China's founding, Saturday (Oct. 11) and Sunday (Oct. 12), will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions. He assured Typhoon Halong poses no threat to Taiwan as it will veer northeast over waters south of Japan, maintaining safe distance from the island. ◼
