TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasted Tuesday (Oct. 7) that intensifying northeast winds will affect areas from Greater Taipei to the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島). The winds will bring brief showers to northern and eastern Taiwan Wednesday (Oct. 8), causing slight temperature drops across affected regions. The weather system represents a significant shift from recent stable atmospheric conditions across the island.
Residents in Taoyuan, a city in northern Taiwan, and further south can expect mostly cloudy to clear skies with possible brief thunderstorms in central and southern mountain regions. Daytime temperatures north of Hsinchu and eastern Taiwan will range from 30 to 32 degrees Celsius (86 to 90°F). Areas south of Hsinchu could see highs of 32 to 35 degrees Celsius (90 to 95°F), with some locations potentially reaching 36 degrees Celsius (97°F).
The CWA warned of strong gusts ranging from 6 to 8 on the Beaufort scale (10.8 - 20.7 m/s or 24-46 mph) in coastal areas of central and northern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula, and outlying islands. As the high-pressure system shifts eastward to Japan by National Day (Oct. 10), Taiwan's national holiday, the northeast winds will weaken and turn easterly. Brief showers remain possible in eastern regions over Saturday (Oct. 11) and Sunday (Oct. 12).
Weather patterns will resemble summer conditions, with temperatures in northern and eastern regions rising to 32-35 degrees Celsius (90-95°F) and central and southern areas maintaining highs of 33-36 degrees Celsius (91-97°F). A more pronounced northeast monsoon expected by Wednesday (Oct. 15) will bring a noticeable shift toward autumn weather across Taiwan. Significant changes in weather patterns and temperatures will likely extend through Oct. 18-19. ◼
