TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese crime film "Organ Child" (器子) reached Netflix's global top 10 Wednesday (Oct. 8), marking a breakthrough for Taiwan cinema. The Joseph Chang (張孝全) thriller debuted Sept. 30 and climbed to fourth place worldwide during the Moon Festival (中秋節), a major Chinese holiday. The film earned nearly NT$20 million (around US$667,000) domestically after overcoming two pandemic-related production delays.
FlixPatrol data confirmed "Organ Child" dominated Taiwan's Netflix chart at number one before achieving fourth place globally. The film surpassed major international releases including South Korea's "Mantis" and India's "Son of Sardaar 2." The thriller secured top 10 positions across Asian markets and ranked second in Honduras, Peru, Nicaragua, and Saudi Arabia.
Director Ben Chien (簡學彬) expressed gratitude to international audiences for the film's unprecedented Netflix success. Chien described the production experience as invaluable despite the challenges faced during filming.
