TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSR, 高鐵) announced new safety regulations Wednesday (Oct. 8) requiring passengers to keep power banks in carry-on bags after fire incidents damaged train compartments. The updated travel guidelines mandate power banks remain in accessible luggage rather than checked baggage to prevent potential fire hazards. Multiple power bank fires prompted the railway operator to strengthen safety protocols.

Passengers must place power banks on tables or hold them while charging under the new regulations. THSR, Taiwan's high-speed rail operator, advises against using deformed or overheated power banks, recommending only devices certified by BSMI, Taiwan's standards authority, or NCC, Taiwan's communications regulator. The company warns passengers face legal and financial liability for fires caused by improper power bank use.

Taiwan High Speed Rail emphasizes passengers must keep power banks visible during charging to address irregularities promptly. The company's proactive safety approach aims to enhance precautionary measures and prevent future fire incidents. The updated protocols ensure secure travel experiences for all railway passengers. ◼
