TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA (輝達) is considering locations outside Taipei for its headquarters after facing contractual issues with its original Taipei City plan. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) announced Wednesday (Oct. 8) that the company still shows interest in Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北士科) despite complications with T17 and T18 sites. The Taipei City Government has proposed relocating to T12 as an alternative solution.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) and Yilan legislator Chen Jun-yu (陳俊宇) highlighted the appeal of alternative locations for NVIDIA's consideration. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) legislator Lai Jui-lung (賴瑞隆) argued at the Legislative Yuan's (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, Finance Committee (財政委員會) that Kaohsiung offers ideal conditions with its Startup Terrace Kaohsiung (亞灣智慧科技創新園區) and existing Advanced Micro Devices investment.
Chen Jun-yu extended an invitation to NVIDIA to consider Yilan Science Park (宜蘭科學園區), citing the area's strengths in technology, tourism, and livability. He noted that the high-speed rail extension project to Yilan, which has passed environmental assessment, will significantly enhance transportation convenience. Yilan Science Park currently offers 33.82 hectares of land available for lease, providing ample development space and flexibility. ◼
