TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tropical Depression TD26 formed Wednesday (Oct. 8) approximately 1,900 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻), posing minimal impact on Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported the depression will move northwest while bringing increased rainfall to northern coastal areas, eastern regions, and Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula.
The CWA anticipated northeastern and easterly winds would primarily affect Taiwan, elevating rain chances in windward areas including Keelung's northern coast and Greater Taipei's mountainous regions. The weakening northeast monsoon will increase rainfall likelihood in Keelung's northern coast, northeastern areas, and Hengchun Peninsula, with sporadic showers expected in Hualien and Taitung on Oct. 10.
Easterly winds will intensify on Oct. 11, increasing eastern region rain chances and expanding afternoon thunderstorm scope. The CWA noted future high temperatures ranging from 31 to 32 degrees Celsius (88 to 90°F) in eastern regions and 34 to 35 degrees (93 to 95°F) in western regions. Residents in Hsinchu-Miaoli, Taichung, and Tainan should prepare for localized temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius (90°F) and take sun protection measures. ◼
