TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Economic Affairs Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) confirmed Thursday (Oct. 9) that NVIDIA remains committed to establishing its overseas headquarters in Taipei despite contract disputes delaying the project. The U.S. chip giant continues prioritizing two sites within the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北投士林科技園區), a major tech development zone, though alternative locations in Kaohsiung and Yilan have emerged as backup options.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (經濟部) is actively facilitating NVIDIA's site selection process. Kung emphasized that NVIDIA strongly favors the T17 and T18 locations while viewing other sites as secondary options. Regulatory concerns over potential profiteering have prompted the Taipei City Government to submit revised project guidelines to the Executive Yuan, Taiwan's cabinet, for expedited review.
Taiwan's highest officials, including President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), have committed full administrative and legal support for the project. The Ministry faces an Oct. 24 deadline to finalize preparations, with Kung noting that preliminary work at the preferred T17 and T18 sites provides advantages. Alternative locations remain under consideration should they satisfy NVIDIA's technical requirements. ◼
