TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's National Day celebrations returned Thursday (Oct. 9) to Taichung (台中) after an eight-year absence, drawing 55,000 attendees to Wenxin Forest Park (文心森林公園) and Fulfillment Amphitheatre (圓滿戶外劇場). The festivities marked a significant homecoming for the annual event, with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), Taiwan's parliament leader, and Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen (盧秀燕) leading the national anthem. The celebration adopted the theme "Republic of China, Taiwan Flavor, Taichung Style," emphasizing the city's unique cultural identity.

The evening showcased local bands Nine One One (玖壹壹) and Flesh Juicer (血肉果汁機), alongside veteran entertainers Hu Kua (胡瓜) and Pai Ping-ping (白冰冰), who revived the iconic "Diamond Stage" (鑽石舞台). Legislator Kao Chin, Su-Mei (高金素梅), a member of Taiwan's parliament, delivered the night's standout moment by returning to perform her hit "The Last Lover" after decades away from the stage. The diverse entertainment lineup demonstrated Taiwan's rich cultural tapestry through music and performance art.

President Lai injected humor into the festivities by playfully teasing Legislative Speaker Han, Taiwan's parliament leader, during his speech, joking that "Han's hair seems less than last year" while praising his organizational efforts. The celebration showcased Taiwan's diverse culture through performances by Golden Melody Award-winning Hakka and Indigenous artists, Taiwan's premier music recognition, alongside international groups. The event successfully highlighted Taichung's unique charm, adding vibrant elements to the National Day series of activities. ◼
