TAIPEI (TVBS News) — North Gate Station (北門驛), a century-old railway landmark in Chiayi City (嘉義市), resumed operations this month under new private management. Lion Group (雄獅集團), a major Taiwanese tourism company, secured management rights and partnered with Lavender Forest (薰衣草森林) to introduce its premium brand, Lavender Forest Select (薰衣草森林Select). The collaboration aims to enhance the historic station's appeal through cultural programming and nature-themed experiences.
The 1910-era station serves as the crucial departure point for the renowned Alishan Forest Railway, Taiwan's historic mountain rail system. The Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office (林鐵文資處), Taiwan's railway preservation authority, launched restoration efforts in 2023. Lion Group plans to integrate its luxury tourist trains, Vivid Express (栩悅號) and Formosensis (福森號), connecting Chiayi, Jhuci (竹崎), Fenqihu (奮起湖), and Alishan (阿里山). Company representatives announced plans for a second development phase featuring an exclusive VIP waiting room.
OTHERWORLD (歐樂沃築夢城堡), a regional theme park, will host its annual "Escaped Princess Carnival" Saturday (Oct. 25). The "Dreamland Halloween Costume Party" offers discounted admission for guests completing at least 80% of their costume ensemble. Free pet entry makes the celebration family-friendly, while visitors can experience the seasonal "Glassy Light" phenomenon along Alishan Highway (台18線). Cold air and moisture create glass-like displays at Shizhuo (石棹) and Eryanping Trail (隙頂二延平步道) from October through March. ◼
