TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's delegation departed Tuesday (Oct. 28) for the APEC summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, led by senior presidential adviser Lin Hsin-i (林信義). Lin will promote Taiwan's semiconductor, AI, and digital technology strengths to world leaders and business representatives. The mission aims to convey the president's message to APEC member nations during the critical summit.
Lin's delegation includes his daughter Lin Wen-hsuan (林玟萱), who will join the spouses' program for diplomatic outreach. Lin previously met with both Biden and Xi Jinping (習近平), bringing crucial high-level diplomatic experience. He stated he remains focused on Taiwan's APEC agenda despite external pressures.
Trump and Xi Jinping will meet Thursday, raising concerns Xi might pressure Trump to reduce Taiwan support. Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) dismissed these worries, expressing confidence in stable U.S.-Taiwan relations. Lin emphasized Taiwan's technological initiatives and goals to strengthen European collaboration.
Lin made these comments during a Taiwan-Europe forum on submarine cable security Tuesday (Oct. 28). European Parliament member Rihards Kols supported Taiwan's initiatives, calling submarine cables strategic assets and lifelines of free societies. China-linked vessels have reportedly damaged several cables this year, highlighting security concerns.
