TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) inspected the Lu Sheng No. 1 (陸勝1號) military drill Tuesday (Oct. 28) in Chiayi (嘉義). The exercise showcased integration of new training, equipment, and technology for Taiwan's military modernization. President Lai joined officers and soldiers for lunch during the inspection visit.

President Lai received briefings and observed fire coordination mechanism drills upon arrival at the exercise site. The president watched rapid decision-making and synchronization procedures conducted by the joint battalion. Lai praised the military's indomitable spirit during training in challenging weather conditions.

President Lai emphasized government support for military readiness, calling armed forces investment crucial for Taiwan Strait stability. The exercise employed drones and the Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) system for comprehensive reconnaissance-to-strike operations. The drill validated cross-service joint combat capabilities and modernized operational strength.

The exercise featured asymmetric warfare and successive resistance tactics using the military's attrition strategy. President Lai noted every exercise serves as true combat validation for Taiwan's defense capabilities. Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) and Army Commander Lu Kun-hsiu (呂坤修) accompanied the president. ◼
