TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan braces for a weather shift as the northeast monsoon strengthens, bringing cooler temperatures and rain to the north and Yilan on Friday (Oct. 31). The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasts a noticeable drop in temperatures, with weekend lows reaching 19 to 20 degrees Celsius, while central and southern regions remain mostly cloudy to sunny, experiencing significant day-night temperature differences.

From Saturday (Nov. 1) to Tuesday (Nov. 4), the north coast of Keelung, the northeast, the east, and the Greater Taipei mountain areas will experience scattered showers. The CWA predicts cloudy skies elsewhere, with isolated afternoon showers in southern regions and central mountain areas. The northeast monsoon will continue to impact the island through Thursday (Nov. 7), keeping northern and northeastern areas cool with decreasing moisture.

Starting Tuesday, the northeast monsoon will gradually weaken, leading to rising temperatures. However, coastal and island areas should remain cautious of strong gusts and increased wave activity. The Administration advises that from Friday to Thursday, the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will experience brief rain, while other areas will remain mostly cloudy to sunny.

WeatherRisk (天氣風險) forecasts average wind forces of 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale (39–49 km/h), with gusts reaching 7 to 8 (50-74 km/h) across various sea areas. Wave heights are expected to range from 2 to 3 meters, prompting a safety advisory for seaside activities and maritime navigation. Residents are advised to stay informed and prepare for the changing weather conditions expected in the coming days.
