TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), Taiwan's vice premier, announced on Thursday (Nov. 6) that the government will implement a comprehensive national land governance project to bolster Taiwan's resilience against extreme weather threats. This initiative comes in response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Danas (丹娜絲) and subsequent heavy rains in July, which severely impacted the central and southern regions.

In the wake of these events, the Executive Yuan (行政院) established the "Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan Post-Disaster Recovery Forward Command Center" (雲嘉南災後復原前進指揮所) to support local recovery efforts. Cheng Li-chiun, representing Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), attended a commendation tea party organized by the Public Construction Commission (公共工程委員會) to express gratitude to the construction industry teams. Cheng praised their tireless efforts in assisting with post-disaster housing repairs, enabling victims to swiftly rebuild their homes.

Cheng highlighted the collaboration between central and local governments and the private sector, which has created a public-private partnership model that showcases the warmth and unity of Taiwanese society. This cooperation has been instrumental in the recovery process, demonstrating the strength of community bonds in times of crisis.

The Forward Command Center has temporarily concluded its operations, according to Cheng. Government ministries will continue to promote recovery and reconstruction efforts in accordance with special regulations. This ongoing commitment ensures that the affected regions will receive the necessary support to fully recover and rebuild.

Chen Chin-te (陳金德), the minister of the Public Construction Commission, emphasized the importance of achieving zero casualties in future typhoon events. He advocated for constructing urban resilience through various means to minimize losses, underscoring the government's proactive approach to disaster preparedness.
