TAIPEI (TVBS News) — WeatherRisk Explore Inc. (天氣風險) analyst Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) pointed out on Friday (Nov. 7) that Typhoon Fung-wong (颱風鳳凰) continues to intensify, potentially escalating into a medium typhoon. Wu anticipated that the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) might issue a sea typhoon warning as early as Nov. 10.
Wu noted on his Facebook page that from today through the morning of Nov. 9, moisture levels will remain low, resulting in mostly stable weather across Taiwan. However, the afternoon may bring scattered showers to the Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas. Wu mentioned that the northeast monsoon will strengthen Nov. 9 afternoon, bringing increased moisture and turning the Greater Taipei area, eastern regions, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula cool and rainy.
The typhoon's outer circulation is expected to impact Taiwan on Nov. 10. The typhoon, currently near Luzon Island, will enhance the northeast monsoon's wind speed, increasing rainfall on the windward side. Wu stated that the typhoon will very likely pass over Taiwan, possibly weakening to a mild typhoon. Wu also suggested the typhoon's intensity might diminish after passing Luzon Island due to unfavorable conditions as it turns north.
Wu predicted a sea typhoon warning would possibly be issued by Nov. 10 evening, with a land warning likely on Nov. 11, placing all of Taiwan under alert. The typhoon will pose the greatest threat on Nov. 12, with the central and southern regions experiencing the most severe weather. Conditions will gradually improve after the typhoon moves away Nov. 13 morning.
