TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (Taipower, 台電) badminton player Chiu Pin-chien (邱品蒨) won her first BWF Super Series title Monday (Nov. 10) at the Super 300 Korea Masters. Chiu becomes the first Taiwanese female singles player since former world number one Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) to capture a title above Super 300 level. The victory marks a significant breakthrough for Taiwanese badminton on the international competitive stage.

Taipower expressed optimism that the women's badminton team's success will significantly boost Taiwan's international sporting presence and reputation. The state-owned utility company reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing top athletes through excellent training environments and stable support, including lifetime job security for outstanding players. Chiu joined Taipower's women's badminton team in 2018 and steadily improved with dedicated coaching and comprehensive company resources.

Chiu, 26, ranks 20th in the world and has been hailed as the new leading lady of Taiwanese badminton following her breakthrough victory. The Kaohsiung native thrived in Taiwan's domestic training system for 16 years, securing three third-place finishes in Super 300 tournaments last year that boosted her ranking. Taipower highlighted teammate Sung Shuo-yun (宋碩芸), a former world number 18 player recovering from injuries who aims to compete alongside Chiu. ◼
