TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 台灣民眾黨) and Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) leaders will meet Wednesday (Nov. 19) to discuss collaboration for 2026 local elections. TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) announced the meeting at the Legislative Yuan, Taiwan's parliament, Monday (Nov. 17), with location still undecided.
Huang emphasized coordinating details and administrative tasks before finalizing the venue for the political meeting. Both parties' central offices maintain close contact and have initiated preliminary meetings to discuss specifics. Huang stated the meeting will be fully open to public, allowing transparency in joint governance discussions.
Newly elected KMT chair Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) confirmed last week that initial contacts between parties have been established. She expressed optimism about the timeline and stated both parties will meet soon. The meeting marks a shift from private negotiations to public discourse for 2026 local election cooperation. ◼
