TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan recorded its coldest morning this season Thursday (Nov. 20), with temperatures dropping to 12.8 degrees Celsius (55.0°F) in Nantou's Mingjian Township (名間鄉). Yunlin's Gukeng Township (古坑鄉) and Miaoli's Gongguan Township (公館鄉) hit 12.9 and 13.1 degrees Celsius (55.2°F and 55.6°F) respectively, the Central Weather Administration (氣象署), Taiwan's national weather service, reported.
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), adjunct associate professor at National Central University's (中央大學) Department of Atmospheric Sciences, predicts temperatures will gradually rise Thursday. He posted on the Meteorological Application & Development Foundation (氣象應用推廣基金會) that northern Taiwan will remain cool while central and southern regions experience comfortable daytime temperatures. Wu warns early morning and evening hours will stay cooler.
European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) models show decreasing low-level moisture Thursday (Nov. 20), Wu reports. Occasional short-term rain may hit the north coast and northeast regions due to these conditions. Wu forecasts Thursday temperatures: northern Taiwan 14-23°C (57-73°F), central Taiwan 13-25°C (55-77°F), southern Taiwan 14-27°C (57-81°F), eastern Taiwan 14-26°C (57-79°F).
Wu predicts minor northeast seasonal winds will move southward starting Nov. 24 evening, bringing rain to windward areas and dropping northern Taiwan temperatures. Weather shifts to dry conditions Nov. 25 afternoon as seasonal winds transition, creating clear, stable conditions regionwide. Morning and evening temperatures remain cool despite rising temperatures expected Nov. 26. ◼
