TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tainan's boneless milkfish fillets will enter the Australian market for the first time, Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) announced Thursday (Nov. 20). The city will ship a 20-foot container of the seafood product following successful negotiations at a recent food expo.
Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau (台南市政府農業局) officials confirmed the deal follows September's Australian Food Expo where the city showcased frozen seafood across six booths. Mayor Huang described milkfish as Tainan's signature product, known locally as "the fish of milk" for its nutritional value.
The export marks Tainan's first entry into Australia's seafood market, with officials reporting strong interest from buyers and consumers during product sampling at the expo. Huang called the deal a "significant opportunity" for local farmers and fishermen that could lead to expanded market reach. ◼
