TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces significantly cooler weather conditions as the northeast monsoon strengthens Monday (Nov. 24), the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported in its latest forecast. Only the northern coast of Keelung will experience brief rainfall today, but atmospheric moisture levels are expected to increase significantly by evening across the island.
WeatherRisk Explore (天氣風險公司) senior consultant Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) warned Monday that a tropical disturbance located southeast of the Philippines could potentially develop into Typhoon Koto (天琴) within the next 24 hours. The weather system is expected to cross through the Philippines and enter the South China Sea between Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 25), according to the meteorological expert's latest analysis.
Tuesday morning temperatures in northern and northeastern urban areas will drop significantly to 17-19 degrees Celsius (63-66°F), while open areas may experience even lower temperatures of 15-17 degrees (59-63°F). Southern cities including Hualien and Taitung will experience relatively warmer temperatures around 20-21 degrees (68-70°F), with open areas still dipping below 19 degrees (66°F). Daytime high temperatures will range from 20-28 degrees (68-82°F) across the entire island.
Temperatures in northern and northeastern open areas are expected to plummet dramatically to 12-14 degrees Celsius (54-57°F) by Wednesday (Nov. 26), with urban areas forecasted to reach similarly cold 14-16 degrees (57-61°F). The Taipei Basin will face strong winds that will drop temperatures to approximately 16 degrees (61°F) throughout the day. Hualien and Taitung urban areas are expected to experience relatively warmer lows of 17-19 degrees (63-66°F), with open areas still experiencing temperatures below 16 degrees (61°F).
