TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Court (台北地院) heard final arguments Thursday (Dec. 11) in the Core Pacific City scandal case. Former Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) appeared among 11 defendants facing corruption and political misconduct allegations. The high-profile case involves political donations to the TPP, Taiwan's second largest opposition party. Ko maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.

Ko arrived at court around 9 a.m., maintaining a composed demeanor and expressing hope for the truth to emerge. He emphasized that despite the absence of a live court broadcast, he will continue fighting for his innocence. Ko questioned the lack of transparency, asking what the court is hiding. He stressed the importance of defending public servants' dignity and Taiwanese society's justice.

Ko emphasized the judiciary's role as the nation's ultimate safeguard, stressing it must uphold fairness and justice. He argued the judiciary should not become a tool of those in power or collaborate with media to oppress citizens. Ko stated the people should trust the judiciary and it must not become a tool of rulers. He called for judicial independence and integrity.

Reflecting on the recent recall failure, Ko attributed it partly to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office's (台北地方檢察署) influence. He called for the judiciary to earn public trust, highlighting the importance of maintaining its integrity and independence. Ko stressed that judicial credibility depends on transparency and fairness. ◼
