TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Radiative cooling will bring colder weather Tuesday (Dec. 16) morning and evening across Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced Monday. The western region will experience significant temperature differences between day and night. Scattered showers are expected along the north coast of Keelung, the northeast, the southeast, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula, a popular tourist destination at Taiwan's southern tip. The CWA urged residents to prepare for fluctuating conditions throughout the week.

Temperatures will remain low Wednesday morning, with a slight increase in northeast monsoon strength by the afternoon. This change will bring brief showers to the north coast of Keelung and the northeast, with a chance of heavier rainfall in localized areas. The northeast monsoon will continue to influence weather Thursday, bringing cooler mornings and evenings nationwide, with the temperature difference pronounced south of Hsinchu and brief showers expected in the eastern regions and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas.

The CWA pointed out that as the northeast monsoon weakens from Friday to Saturday (Dec. 19-20), temperatures will rise slightly in the north and northeast. Increased moisture will lead to scattered showers in the south, east, and southeast during this period. The northeast monsoon is expected to strengthen again Sunday (Dec. 21), cooling the weather in the north and northeast, with brief showers anticipated in Taoyuan and regions northward, the northeast, east, and Hengchun Peninsula.

The CWA forecast low temperatures ranging from 15 to 20 degrees Celsius (59 to 68°F) across Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, Taiwan's outlying islands, from Wednesday to Sunday (Dec. 17-21). Highs will range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius (70 to 79°F) in the north, east, and Penghu, while central and southern regions will see temperatures between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius (77 to 84°F). Matsu, located near China's coast, can expect highs between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius (61 to 66°F). ◼
