TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Administration of Commerce (AOC), Ministry of Economic Affairs (經濟部商業發展署) announced Monday (Dec. 15) a plan to invest at least NT$2.5 billion (around US$80.1 million) to help over 30,000 businesses adopt AI. The 2026-2027 initiative aims to transform Taiwan's commercial service industry by integrating artificial intelligence solutions. The announcement signals a major government push to accelerate digital transformation across retail and food service sectors.

The AOC invited My Warm Day (麥味登), a Taiwanese breakfast chain, and D+AF, a footwear brand, to share their AI successes at Monday's press conference. This year, the AOC has helped over 12,000 businesses integrate AI tools, achieving an average revenue growth of 5.4%. Participating businesses also reported a reduction in administrative time by more than 50%, demonstrating the efficiency gains from AI adoption.

Cho Ching-lun (卓靖倫), chairman of My Warm Day, reported that implementing AI enabled the company to establish a data platform and AI consulting assistant, optimizing ordering services and saving over 50% in administrative time. Chang Shih-chi (張士祺), CEO of D+AF, highlighted AI's role in enhancing product comfort and store services. Chang noted that AI-improved shoes worn by BLACKPINK members Lisa and Jennie became bestsellers for the brand.

Director General Su Wen-ling (蘇文玲) of the Department of Commerce, MOEA, explained plans to create a "one-stop" service offering demand confirmation, online diagnostics, and resource matching. This service will help businesses evaluate AI adoption conditions and provide tiered guidance based on scale and digital capability. The streamlined approach aims to reduce barriers for small and medium enterprises seeking to integrate artificial intelligence tools.

Su stated that the short-term goal involves introducing AI applications to 20,000 stores and training 28,000 AI professionals over the next two years. The mid-term plan, from 2027 to 2028, will shift focus to cross-domain AI integration, adding 20,000 stores and training 30,000 individuals. The AOC will continue integrating resources across ministries, public associations, and legal entities to accelerate AI adoption and enhance Taiwan's service industry resilience. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.2)
