TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Sun Yat-sen University (中山大學) and SOAS, University of London, launched Taiwan and the U.K.'s first dual master's degree program on Tuesday (Dec. 15), connecting the two institutions through a virtual signing ceremony. The one-year program, focusing on global citizenship, will begin in Sept. 2026, offering joint courses and mentoring from both universities.
SOAS President Adam Habib highlighted the long-standing collaboration between SOAS and Taiwan, noting the Taiwan Studies Centre's 20-year history at SOAS. Habib stated that the new dual master's degree program's core theme of global citizenship aimed to unite diverse global communities, expressing that this initiative will reflect the universities' commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and addressing complex global issues.
The program, developed by SOAS's School of Anthropology, Media and Gender and National Sun Yat-sen University's College of Social Sciences, will feature similar tuition fees for all students. It will also offer up to 18 full and partial scholarships, with semesters held in Taiwan and the U.K. The curriculum targets university graduates and professionals from various fields, enhancing their ability to engage in global cooperation and collaboration.
Vincent Yao (姚金祥), Taiwan's representative in the U.K., attended the ceremony in London, emphasizing education as a cornerstone of Taiwan-U.K. relations. Yao remarked that many outstanding individuals from Taiwan have benefited from the world-class higher education in the U.K., noting that over 4,000 Taiwanese are currently pursuing degrees there.
