TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Hualien County Government announced on Tuesday (Dec. 16) that it cooperated with Taiwanese bike share company YouBike (微笑單車) to launch Guangfu Township's (光復鄉) 10th YouBike station. This station, "Guangfu Sugar Factory Station" (光復糖廠站), was opened on Friday (Dec. 12). The establishment of YouBike stations in the township aims to restore transportation in the area following the landslide disaster at Matai'an Creek's (馬太鞍溪) barrier lake.

The new station serves as a vital link connecting the train station, urban areas, and Matai'an scenic spots, enhancing mobility for both residents and tourists. Hualien County's Tourism Department (觀光處) emphasized the station's role in improving access and convenience. The department noted that the rapid implementation of the 10 YouBike 2.0 stations containing 150 public bikes contributes to alleviating post-disaster transportation challenges by offering a low-carbon, flexible commuting option.

Yu Ming-hsun (余明勲), director of the Tourism Department (觀光處), stated that the inclusion of the new station optimizes daily routes and stimulates local tourism. He added that the county government will continue adjusting the number of bikes and service capacity. The YouBike 2.0 system provides a unified membership and operation method nationwide, allowing users to rent bikes using electronic tickets or a mobile app.

Other stations are strategically located at key lifestyle and educational hubs, including Guangfu Railway Station (台鐵光復站), Zhongzheng Guanghua St. Intersection (中正光華街口), and National Kuangfu Commercial and Industrial Vocational High School (光復商工). The county government explained that the first 30 minutes will be free until late February, with the first four hours costing NT$12 every 30 minutes and a progressive rate thereafter, ensuring affordable and user-friendly services.
