TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC, 漢翔) won the Gold Medal in the Energy Conservation Benchmark Award (節能標竿獎) for its Gangshan plant, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced Tuesday (Dec. 16). Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) presented the award to Wang Fang-hua (王芳華), director of AIDC's engine business division, on Monday (Dec. 15), marking a major milestone for Taiwan's leading aerospace manufacturer.

AIDC earned its fourth recognition as a national energy conservation benchmark enterprise with this award. The company secured the top honor for the first time for its Gangshan (岡山) plant, located in southern Taiwan, having previously won one gold and three silver awards over four years. Both the Shalu (沙鹿) and Gangshan plants have driven these achievements. The Gangshan plant has made significant progress in energy conservation and carbon reduction despite operating in a high-energy-consuming industry, according to AIDC.

The Gangshan plant's success in energy savings extends across AIDC's three major facilities in Taiwan, the company stated. General Manager Tsao Chin-ping (曹進平) said energy conservation and carbon reduction have become central to AIDC's corporate culture. He noted that these efforts deliver environmental benefits while reducing operational costs, forming the foundation of the company's sustainable operations strategy.

AIDC reported a steady decline in energy consumption per product unit over the past three years. The company saves 2.2 million kilowatt-hours annually, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,046 tons. These savings generate benefits exceeding NT$8.84 million (around US$281,500), the company stated. AIDC plans to complete its self-developed energy storage project, "Electricity Island" (電力島), at the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park (台中水湳廠區) in 2026, further advancing its sustainability initiatives.

AIDC has integrated AI into its operations, establishing systems for power monitoring, solar power management, and energy performance measurement. The company has also implemented chilled water cooling integration, variable frequency and voltage control, and expanded to the fourth phase of solar energy deployment, demonstrating its commitment to technological innovation in pursuit of environmental sustainability goals. ◼
