Taiwan sees brief monsoon reprieve (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's weather bureau, forecasted a reprieve from the northeast monsoon, with temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan expected to rise slightly on Friday (Dec. 19). Southern cloud systems will move north, bringing brief showers across the island and a chance of heavier rain in eastern regions.

According to CWA, the northeast monsoon is expected to intensify on Saturday, cooling the weather in northern and northeastern Taiwan. Keelung north coast, Greater Taipei, Taiwan's capital region, and northeastern areas will experience brief rain with a possibility of heavier showers. The trend continues on Sunday, with cooler temperatures in the north and northeast, while other regions will see significant temperature differences between day and night.

The northeast monsoon will weaken slightly on Dec. 23, causing a slight increase in temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan. CWA noted that cooler weather persists in the mornings and evenings island-wide, with brief showers expected in Keelung north coast, northeastern, and eastern areas. By Dec. 24, the monsoon will strengthen again, cooling northern and northeastern Taiwan, and this trend will continue into Dec. 25, affecting other regions as well. ◼
