TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A smoke bomb thrown inside Taipei Main Station (台北車站), Taiwan's busiest railway hub, injured one person and disrupted metro operations Friday (Dec. 19) afternoon. The device detonated at 5:27 p.m. inside the M7 exit, filling the station with smoke and causing chaos among commuters. Train services on the Bannan Line (板南線) have resumed normal operations after the smoke dissipated.
The smoke bomb left a 57-year-old man injured and unconscious at the scene. Emergency responders rushed him to National Taiwan University Hospital for emergency treatment. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (臺北捷運), the city's metro operator, promptly alerted metro police and emergency services. Ambulances arrived quickly to manage the situation and transport the victim.
The smoke affected the Bannan Line (板南線) platform at Taipei Main Station, prompting the operations control center to implement standard operating procedures. Some trains temporarily bypassed the station without stopping during the emergency response. Authorities are investigating the source and motive behind the smoke bomb attack. ◼
