TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), the nation's meteorological agency, forecasts cooler temperatures and scattered showers for northern regions Wednesday (Dec. 24) as the northeast monsoon strengthens. Residents from Taoyuan northward, the eastern half, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula should expect rain, while other areas see partly cloudy to clear skies. The monsoon will bring cooler conditions to northern and northeastern Taiwan.
A cold air mass from China, the People's Republic of China, will move south Thursday and Friday, bringing significant temperature drops. Central, northern, and northeastern Taiwan will experience the coldest conditions, the CWA announced Tuesday (Dec. 23). Other regions across the island will experience chilly mornings and evenings during this two-day period.
Increased moisture from the evening of Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 will likely bring brief showers to areas north of Taoyuan and the northeast, with some areas potentially experiencing heavier rainfall. The administration warned residents to prepare for wet conditions during this period. Scattered showers will continue in the north, east, southeast, and Hengchun Peninsula, with isolated rain in central and southern mountainous areas.
The weakening cold air mass will keep weather cool in the north and northeast Saturday and Sunday. Other regions will experience cool mornings and evenings during this period. The eastern half and Hengchun Peninsula may still see scattered showers, with isolated rain along the northern coast of Keelung and mountains surrounding Greater Taipei, Taiwan's capital region.
