TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 24) its decision to nominate Legislator Chang Chi-kai (張啓楷) for the Chiayi City mayoral race. Former TPP Chair Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) conveyed his blessings through a recorded video, urging Chiayi residents to support Chang.
TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) also praised Chang at the press conference, describing him as a source of pride for the party and a figure of shared anticipation among the citizens of Chiayi City. Huang emphasized Chang's professional background as a seasoned media professional with deep insights into parliamentary budgets and finance.
Huang stated that Chang has offered substantial policy advice and worked tirelessly across Taiwan to garner support for Ko and the party. He lauded Chang's performance in the Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's legislature, and noted Chang's prowess in exposing corruption and his dedication to grassroots needs.
Ko, in his video message, pointed out Chang's Chiayi roots and his two years of legislative experience, which have prepared him well for this role. Ko noted Chang's past as a financial journalist and praised his knowledge of Taiwan's economic development. He stated that the citizens of Chiayi are discerning, valuing performance over political affiliation, and asked them to give Chang and the TPP a chance.
