TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung (高雄), Taiwan's second-largest city, will host KWON EUNBI (權恩妃) for her first New Year's Eve performance in Taiwan at the "2026 Kaohsiung New Year's Eve Party" (2026雄嗨趴), organizers revealed Thursday (Dec. 26). The K-pop star will showcase a new red look while the event features "Asia Bay Fireworks" with 10-inch aerial displays synchronized to BLACKPINK and TWICE music.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) emphasized the event's focus on the city's smart and cultural innovations, noting they invited KWON EUNBI to enhance the celebration's international appeal. KWON EUNBI, who boasts over 2.87 million Instagram followers, said, "I'm really looking forward to the New Year's Eve performance in Kaohsiung, and I miss you all so much!" (非常期待在高雄跨年表演,也很想念大家!) She plans to energize her fans, known as "RUBI," with New Year's songs.
The city designated several viewing spots for the fireworks, including Time Avenue (時代大道), Jhonghua 5th Rd. Sidewalk (中華五路人行道), and Jin Gong Bridge (金鞏橋). Following a recent attack on the Taipei Metro, the Kaohsiung government, the city's municipal authority, has heightened anti-terrorism measures for significant events. Mayor Chen stated they have increased police presence and improved inter-agency communication to ensure public safety.
Kaohsiung City Police Department, the local law enforcement agency, has conducted drills to secure transportation hubs and the New Year's Eve event, implementing a "police-civilian cooperation" strategy. Authorities introduced new equipment like drones and 360-degree cameras to enhance crowd management. Since Thursday (Dec. 19), authorities have mobilized 6,198 police officers and 80 support personnel to safeguard transit stations and the event. ◼
