TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theater Command (共軍東部戰區) announced on Tuesday (Dec. 30) that their exercise for the second day of the "Justice Mission 2025" (正義使命-2025) will involve live-fire drills in five maritime and aerial zones. The exercise will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is intended to be a part of a strategic display of power.
The Eastern Theater Command stated that it has deployed destroyers, frigates, fighter-bombers, and other forces to conduct verification, identification, warning, and simulated strikes in the relevant waters off Taiwan's northern and southern coasts. Li Xi (李熹), spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command, confirmed that the army conducted remote live-fire drills in the northern waters of Taiwan at 9 a.m., achieving the intended results.
The Eastern Theater Command released a promotional poster on its WeChat account titled "Justice Hammer: Blockade and Severance" (正義之錘封港斷線), accompanied by slogans emphasizing decisive action and severe consequences for resistance. The campaign underscores the seriousness with which the command views these exercises, aiming to project a strong message of deterrence.
In response, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (國防部) stated that the military has designated five exercise zones, including areas within Taiwan's 12-nautical-mile territorial sea baseline. The ministry assured that the armed forces, including the Navy's 62nd Task Force, the Air Force Operations Command, and frontline combat units, will respond according to the rules of engagement and authorization matrix based on the assessed threat level.
