TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's electric vehicle market recorded 32,558 registrations in 2025, marking an 8.6% decline from 2024 amid a global slowdown in EV growth. Still, Tesla's Model Y dominated the market with 13,384 registrations and a 41.1% market share, becoming the first electric vehicle in Taiwan to surpass 10,000 annual sales. The data, reported Tuesday (Jan. 6), reflects broader challenges facing the global electric vehicle industry.
Luxgen's (納智捷) n⁷ secured second place with 3,431 registrations, despite a significant drop from 2024. The brand plans to transition its market presence to Foxtron (鴻華先進), a joint venture between Foxconn (鴻海), the major electronics manufacturer, and Yulon (裕隆), Taiwan's leading automaker. Tesla's Model 3 ranked third with 2,655 registrations, reinforcing the American automaker's dominance in Taiwan's electric vehicle sector with two models in the top three.
BMW's iX1 ranked fourth with 1,493 registrations, demonstrating the effectiveness of the German automaker's sales strategies in Taiwan. Porsche's Macan Electric followed with 1,142 registrations in fifth place, establishing itself as a key player in the luxury brand's electric vehicle lineup. Volvo's EX30 debuted in the top 10, securing sixth place with 1,034 registrations and signaling the Swedish brand's growing influence in Taiwan's EV market.
BMW's iX2 maintained seventh place with 864 registrations despite experiencing a decline of over 50% from the previous year's performance. Toyota's bZ4X reestablished its market presence in Taiwan, ranking eighth with 728 registrations after a challenging period. BMW's iX secured ninth position with 727 registrations, giving the German automaker three models in the top 10 and demonstrating its strong commitment to Taiwan's growing electric vehicle market.
