TAIPEI (TVBS News) — McDonald's reintroduced its milkshakes to several stores in Taiwan on Monday (Jan. 12), drawing eager crowds to 12 select locations across the island. The milkshakes returned after a successful comeback in Nov. 2025, which saw them sell out in less than a month after a nine-year hiatus of the milkshakes in Taiwan. The latest relaunch occurred as raw materials became available, prompting long lines before the 10:30 a.m. sales start.
Customers began queuing as early as 9:50 a.m. at these exclusive outlets, with lines averaging about 30 people by the time sales commenced. Many patrons, like a 30-year-old who arrived early to relive childhood memories, sought to secure a taste after missing out during the previous sale. A Malaysian tourist joined the queue, noting the absence of similar products back home, while a mother from Tamsui (淡水) brought her children along during a trip to Taipei.
Despite the milkshake's return to its original cost of NT$79, consumers seemed unfazed by any price changes, prioritizing the chance to try the nostalgic beverage. McDonald's has implemented a "made-to-order" system for the milkshakes, available only at dedicated counters. Each location can serve up to 90 cups per hour, with a purchase limit of four cups per transaction.
In response to the high demand, McDonald's plans to expand milkshake sales to additional restaurants throughout 2026, broadening their availability to more regions. Currently, the 12 participating outlets include McDonald stores in Guanqian Road (館前路) and Xihu Road (西湖路) in Taipei, as well as the Chongqing Road (重慶路) store in New Taipei City's Banqiao (板橋).
