TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tainan City marked a milestone on Monday (Jan. 12) by exporting its honey jujubes to Singapore for the first time. The shipment, sourced primarily from the orchard managed by young farmer Lin I-fu (林一夫) in Nansi District (楠西區), showcases the region's agricultural prowess and commitment to expanding international markets, according to a press release.

The city's Agriculture Bureau (農業局) emphasized that Tainan's honey jujubes, passion fruits, and guavas have successfully entered Singapore's high-end Takashimaya retail channels. This achievement increases the visibility of Tainan's agricultural specialties on the international stage. The Tainan City Government revealed that a vegetable and fruit production cooperative combined efforts with the Zuojhen District (左鎮區) farmers' association to supply passion fruit, and with another cooperative to export guavas.

Officials from the Agriculture Bureau noted that Tainan boasts favorable climate conditions and advanced cultivation techniques. The honey jujubes, renowned for their sweetness and delicate texture, benefit from a robust cold-chain logistics system. The city airfreights these fruits to Singapore weekly, ensuring consistent product quality.

Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) highlighted that Tainan's seasonal fruits, including honey jujubes, guavas, passion fruits, and cantaloupes, are ideal gifts for festive occasions. He said that the exports to Singapore not only secures better income for farmers, but also enhances the international reputation of Tainan's fruits and demonstrates the city's year-round fruit production capability.
