TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) forecasted that temperatures will dip below 10 degrees Celsius in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Hsinchu County by Tuesday (Jan. 13) morning. A cold front will sweep through Taiwan, causing a significant drop in temperatures across the island. The northern and central regions are expected to see lows of 12 degrees, while the southern regions may reach lows of 13 degrees.
The CWA advised the public to stay warm and be mindful of the temperature differences between day and night. Officials urged caution when using gas water heaters and electric heating appliances, emphasizing the importance of indoor ventilation and electrical safety. The administration also issued a strong wind advisory, effective from Tuesday afternoon to evening, covering seven counties, including Taichung City, Changhua County, and Chiayi County.
Meteorologist Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) predicted that Taipei City could see weekend highs of 26 or 27 degrees, with a cold spell expected again by Jan. 19. Chia notes that the current stable weather pattern should persist until Friday (Jan. 16), when a new northeastern monsoon will bring scattered showers to areas north of Taoyuan and Yilan. Rainfall is also expected to expand further by Saturday (Jan. 17) afternoon.
Looking ahead, the European model simulation suggests that the northeastern monsoon will intensify between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, bringing localized rain and another drop in temperatures in northern regions and Yilan. Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance developing east of the Philippines could intensify into a tropical depression by Wednesday (Jan. 14) or Thursday (Jan. 15), potentially affecting weather conditions in the Philippines.
