TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Six at-large legislators from the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) will resign on Feb. 1 to honor the party's two-year term policy, the Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, announced on Tuesday (Jan. 20). The departing legislators are Lin Kuo-cheng (林國成), Lin Yi-chun (林憶君), Zhang Qikai (張啓楷), Mai Yu-zhen (麥玉珍), Huang Shan-shan (黃珊珊), and Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌). The announcement came from the Legislative Yuan's Personnel Office.
The Legislative Yuan (立法院), Taiwan's parliament, plans to include the resignation cases in its Thursday (Jan. 23) meeting agenda, although the specifics of the discussion remain undecided. Two TPP at-large legislators, Chen Gau-tzu (陳昭姿) and Liu Shu-bin (劉書彬), will continue to serve in the legislature. Former TPP chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) explained that Chen will remain to complete legislation, while Liu's term has not yet reached the two-year mark after stepping in on March 14 last year.
The TPP has identified replacements for the outgoing legislators based on the party's 2024 list of at-large legislative candidates. The six expected to fill the vacancies are Hung Yu-shiang (洪毓祥), Tsai Chun-chou (蔡春綢), Wang An-hsiang (王安祥), Chiu Hui-ju (邱慧洳), Taichung City Councilor Jacky Chen (陳清龍), and Li Zhen-hsiu (李貞秀). The appointments aim to ensure a seamless transition and uphold the party's commitment to its internal term limit regulations. ◼
