TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces a week of fluctuating temperatures with two cold air waves approaching, though stable weather is expected across the island on Monday (Jan. 26), according to meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮). Wu noted in his column that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model indicates northern Taiwan will enjoy comfortable daytime temperatures. Central and southern regions may experience mild heat with significant temperature differences between morning and evening.
Cloud cover over Taiwan increased significantly on Monday morning, concentrating precipitation echoes primarily offshore in the eastern part. Hualien and Taitung, two counties on Taiwan's east coast, experienced localized rainfall, and cloud layers blocked radiative cooling, causing a substantial rise in temperatures.
The lowest temperatures in the plains of Taiwan as of 4:52 a.m. Monday hovered around 16 degrees Celsius (60.8°F). Qidu District (七堵區) in Keelung recorded 15.6 degrees Celsius (60.1°F), and Shalu District (沙鹿區) in Taichung saw 16.0 degrees Celsius (60.8°F). Neimen District (內門區) in Kaohsiung registered 15.7 degrees Celsius (60.3°F), and Shoufeng Township (壽豐鄉) in Hualien reported 15.6 degrees Celsius (60.1°F).
The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) warns Taiwan faces two cold air waves this week. The first wave will bring temperatures dropping to 11 degrees Celsius (51.8°F), while the second could reach the intensity of a strong continental cold air mass, meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) said. Lin advised residents to prepare for the alternating warm and cold weather by adjusting their clothing accordingly. ◼
