Cloudy skies and showers in Taiwan (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front will bring cooler temperatures and scattered showers to northern and northeastern Taiwan on Saturday (Jan. 31), the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced Thursday (Jan. 29). The agency forecasted predominantly cloudy weather across Taiwan on Friday (Jan. 30), with brief showers expected in the eastern regions and Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula. Northern mountainous areas may also experience isolated showers.

The CWA reported that the cold front passing on Saturday will bring cooler temperatures to northern and northeastern Taiwan, along with scattered showers. Central Taiwan will see isolated showers, while other areas remain mostly cloudy. The agency noted that the northeastern monsoon will continue influencing weather conditions, bringing cooler temperatures from central to northern Taiwan on Sunday (Feb. 1), with brief showers in the north and northeast and cooler mornings and evenings elsewhere.

The CWA predicted that the northeastern monsoon's impact will persist into Feb. 2 and early Feb. 3, keeping northern and northeastern Taiwan cool, with temperatures dropping noticeably. Brief showers are expected Feb. 2 in the north, northeast, east and central mountainous areas. Isolated showers will affect the southeast and Hengchun Peninsula during this period as the monsoon maintains its grip on the island.

The CWA said temperatures will rise as the monsoon weakens starting Feb. 3. The north coast of Keelung (基隆) and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas will see brief showers, along with the eastern regions. Other areas will have partly cloudy to sunny weather. Most regions will experience partly cloudy to sunny skies Feb. 4 and Feb. 5, with only the southeast and Hengchun Peninsula seeing isolated showers. ◼
