TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) concluded his Taiwan visit on Monday (Feb. 2) without meeting Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), but plans to sign a headquarters agreement during his next visit. The anticipated deal marks a significant step in Nvidia's potential expansion in Taiwan, aimed at bolstering collaboration and infrastructure development. Negotiations continue between the tech giant and Taipei officials over a potential second headquarters site.
Mayor Chiang revealed plans to finalize the agreement with Nvidia between Tuesday and Sunday (Feb. 10-15), highlighting ongoing communication between the parties. Huang expressed optimism about the collaboration. "I thought it's finalized. The signing is easy. Hopefully, we'll get it finalized, signed, and start building as soon as possible. It'll still take several years," he said.
Taipei's Urban Planning Commission (台北市都委會) approved a crucial case on Monday (Jan. 26), which took effect on Monday (Feb. 2). This development leads to deliberations on royalty fees totaling an estimated NT$12 billion (around US$380 million). Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) indicated the anticipated royalty fee aligns with initial projections but remains subject to final review outcomes.
Taipei City Councilor Tseng Hsien-ying (曾獻瑩) announced plans to convene an appraisal review meeting this week. Upon finalizing the royalty fee, negotiations with Nvidia will commence, and signing will proceed once Nvidia agrees. The councilor also mentioned preparations for supporting legislative candidate Lee in the upcoming election, highlighting broader political dynamics.
